In the second volume of his series on Airplane Design, Jan Roskam starts from a basic fuselage configurations and develops three distinct aircraft concepts from it:
  • A twin-engine propeller-driven airplane, the Selene, after the goddess of the moon in Greek mythology.
  • A jet transport, the Ourania, after the Greek muse of astronomy.
  • A fighter, the Eris, after the goddess of war in Greek mythology.
Here is the basic fuselage design that Roskam starts from:

Eris is called a fighter, but I'm guessing it's really more of a strike/close air suppport/COIN-type aircraft?

I wish I could find more diagrams of aircraft which had fuel tank placement illustrated...
