Jacob Christian Ellehammer, Denmark's aviation pioneer

When we think of the early days of aviation, we always think of pioneers from France, the United States, England, Germany, Italy... But other countries had some interesting figures too. One such figure was Denmark's aviation pioneer, Jacob Christian Ellehammer, who built and flew gliders, landplanes, seaplanes, and even tries to get a helicopter in the air. Attached below is a 5-page article published in the September 1931 issue of the Danish publication Flyv, marking Ellehammer's recent passing. Even without speaking Danish, the photos are interesting in themselves.

Stopped rotors are not new. Neither are stowed rotors, or telescoping blades. But relatively little has made it off the drawing board and into the wind tunnel, let alone into flight. According to Wikipedia the first disc-rotor may have been a compound helicopter studied in 1935 by Danish aviation pioneer Jacob Ellehammer.
