Good perspective on mostly nothing.

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Makes sentences such as "Space, the final frontier" and "the conquest of space" sound pretty lame and utterly arrogant..

And since all these planets are NEVER all aligned at the same time, think of the probably of going in a straight line in space and actually encountering something, anything... pretty dim, eh?

Amazing site, if only from a technical viewpoint. I must say I lost interest after Jupiter!

Actually, "Space, the final frontier" seems okay. "Frontier" means unexplored and full of unknowns. Space is certainly that. (And we don't want to be dissin' Kirk. ;D ) "Conquering space" on the otherhand, THAT sounds like ants boasting they're going to fly to the moon.
