Any landing you can walk away from, is a good one.

One of my favourite movie spacecraft (or at least the nose of it) was the Icarus from "Planet of the Apes"

I was always bothered by the name. Who in their right mind would name a flying craft after someone who dropped out the of the sky?

The author of the original book, a French writer named Pierre Boulle, was credited with the screenplay for “The Bridge on the River Kwai”. A very negative guy!
When he died in 1994 the cultural world was much sorrowed.
I was not.

I had seen the last two sites (really the same one), and its a great refference for us SF geeks.

:)

The first one, however, was new and is quite fascinating.

Thanks.

Good point.

The thing is, they never refer to the ship "by name" in any of the three "Apes" films the spacecraft appears in.

The name appears to be "given" to it by fans later. Thus, the name seems to be justified.

I had always speculated on why we never see the back end. In the first (and best) film, it doesn't need to be shown, but later they could have. I always felt they designed such a really cool front end, that the back end would never live up to it and they left it as is.

This topic really rubs me the wrong way. overscan was afraid that a flood of science fiction stills, production artwork, and model photographs would flood the "Fictional, Theoretical and Speculative Projects" section. Because of this, overscan was going to change the rights to this section and only allow Senior Members to post topics. I thought that his initial solution was unfair and unjust to an entire class of users and I deleted my account because of it.

Now I see a topic in which a fictional spacecraft is being discussed whose interior and exterior design provides no evidence that any engineering or scientific thought went into it. I have read nothing that states or suggests that NASA, any aerospace manufacturer, scientist, or aerospace expert was consulted for technical advice or assistance that influenced the design. The design seems pure fantasy.

Let's nip this in the bud right now before we have Star Trek and Star Wars production art and paintings, movie frames, and behind the scenes photographs. Keep in mind that server storage space and bandwidth is expensive and consider if your topic is in the spirit or posting guidelines of Secret Projects which appears as a sticky in this section. Remember that this isn't a science fiction movie discussion board.

I am sorry I have offended anyone with this post. Although, I can understand Triton's thoughts on this matter.

With all due respect, though, the first word in the description of this forum chapter is "Fictional".

That does lend to this type of subject matter.

Regardless, I will abide by any decision Overscan makes....
