A Hiller concept, which, as I understand, should use a variant of the thrust augmented
injector system

Looks similar to the STORC concept, which would have used the fixed rotor
as a wing (NOT in flight, so it wouldn't have been a truecompound !)

Artist's impression of Hiller STORC.

Another advanced look at logistical solutions was proposed in the STORC, a tip turbojet helicopter the rotor of which would be inverted and locked in position, transforming the aircraft - on the ground - into an airplane. Ferrying itself at high speed overseas to its operational theater, STORC would be free of ships and transport planes, and complexity of re-assembly. Circa late 1950's/early 1960's (?).

Greetings All -

A nice find in a collection donated to our Museum was this artwork for a Hiller tiltwing design and a little humor with a cartoon from their in house newsletter.

Enjoy the Day! Mark
