H.P. 128 short range airliner :-
cruising speed M1.15 with no sonic boom.
stage length 500nm.
pax capacity - 125 @ 30" pitch.
maximum auw 117,700 lb, payload 25,000 lb
span 67.5 ft
area 1,300 sq ft.
sweepback 45 degrees.
aspect ratio 3.5
t/c ratio 6%
section NACA 65 or RAF100 series.
engines - 3 turbojets each of 15,000 lb s.t. [1.45 X enlarged RR speys]
structure - aluminium.
high lift devices - leading edge flaps with suction when deflected, blown trailing edge flaps.
the aircraft was expected to achieve a 20% saving in block time, for a 15% increase in direct operating cost over convention airliners over the design 500 mile stage length.
studies continued until 1964.
