George Orwell wrote 1984, but he also wrote other novels such as Animal Farm published in August 1945.The setting of the novel is a farm in which the animals rebel and take power and drive out the men in order to lead an existence in equality, mutual aid and peace for all. The farm under the control of the animals is managed according to the seven commandments established by a convention, but some time later, the pigs, forming an elite, take power. Following some power intrigues, hegemonic rivalries appear. The original utopia goes up in smoke. A new powerful master, with the help of dogs and other pigs, suppresses all the founding principles of the former revolt. Nothing seems to distinguish the pigs from their former masters. Soon after, on the wall of the seven great commandments of this new system, even the seventh commandment was changed to "All animals are equal" to which the new master in power added "but some are more equal than others".
The story is full of symbolism and analogy, and was nearly burnt to the ground in 1944 when Orwell's home at 10 Mortimer Crescent in London was struck by a V1, fortunately none of his family were on the scene that day. Orwell spent hours and hours searching through the rubble and refuse of his house for the manuscript of Animal Farm which he eventually found and that is how this story came to be and which we read to this day with pleasure.
