First in the French variant of the NATO NFR-90.

Specs given at the time were :

Displacement (full load) : 5,000 mt
Length : 131 meters
Speed : 25 knots
Range : 5,000 NM @ 19 knots
Crew : 201
Weapons : 1 x 100mm Compact gun, 48 VLS cells for Aster 15 (32 forward, 16 aft), 8 MM-40 Exocet, 2 Mistral launchers, 1 medium helo (NH-90 or EH-101)

Model below was shown at Le Bourget 1989 naval exhibition (now known as Euronaval):

Second is the Fregate Legere (which eventually became the La Fayette).

Specs given at the time were :

Displacement : 3,500 mt fully loaded
Length : 110 meters
Beam : 13,80 meters
Speed : 25 knots
Range : 9,000 NM @ 12 knots
Weapons (batch 1) : 1 x 100mm Model 1968 gun, 1 x Crotale Naval launcher, 4 x MM-40 Exocet, 1 x NH-90 medium helicopter

The Model shown below is EOLES (Escorteur Oceanique Leger a Effet de Surface), an SES corvette for blue water ASW.

Specs given in 1986 were :

Displacement : 950 mt

Propulsion : CODLAG - 2 x 5,000 SHP diesel engines for off-cushion cruise, 2 x 1,000 SHP electric motors for quiet mode, 2 x LM 2500 gas turbines for high speed.

Speed : 18 knots off cushion, 50 knots on cushion

Weapons : 2 x twin torpedo launchers for 324mm torpedoes, 4 x MM-40 Exocet, 2 x Mistral SADRAL launchers, 2 x Super Puma helicopters

Crew : 90

Another corvette design : ESPADON 1000 proposed by the SFCN (Societe Française de Constructions Navales), a deep-vee monohull.

Specs given at the time were :

Displacement : 1,000 mt

Dimensions : 94 x 13 x 3,5 meters

Propulsion : 3 x 8,000 shp diesels engines connected to 2 CPPs and 1 waterjet
Speed : 0 to 16 knots with waterjet alone (for quiet ASW); 0 to 23 knots with CPPs (for cruise); up to 34 knots with CPPs and waterjet.

Range : 5,000 NM @ 15 knots

Crew : 85

Weapons :
* 1 x 76mm or 100m gun
* 2 x 40mm or 30mm guns (30mm guns proposed were SAMOS and SATAN CIWS)
* 1 x Crotale missile launcher
* 8 x MM-40 Exocet
* 2 x triple torpedo launchers (for 324mm torpedoes)
* 1 x Dauphin helicopter ot 1 x Super Puma

Another SES proposed during the 1980s was the NES-200 (Navire a Effet de Surface).

Specifications given at the time were :

Displacement : 200 mt, fully loaded

Dimensions : 49 meters (length) x 13 meters (beam)

Propulsion : 2 x 4,000 shp diesel engines + 2 x 1,000 shp diesel engines for lift fans, 2 waterjets

Speed :
* SS0/1 : 38 knots on cushion
* SS2 : 35 knots on cushion
* SS4/5 : 30 knots on cushion
* off-cushion : 15 knots

Range :
* on-cushion : 825 NM @ 38 knots
* off-cushion : 2,000 NM @ 12 knots

Several variants were proposed : fast-ferry (for 400 passengers or 250 passengers + 27 cars), off-shore service vessel, off-shore patrol vessel (aka NESSIE : Navire a Effet de Surface de Surveillance des Interets Economiques), and Fast Attack Craft.

The Fast Attack Craft variant shown below was armed with 4 x MM-40 Exocet missiles, 2 x OTO Melara single 40mm (forward) and 1 x Oerlikon twin 30mm (aft) :

Weapons: 1x76 mm gun; 1x30 mm Goalkeeper system, 1x8 cell Crotale Naval SAM, 2x4 cell Exocet MM-40, 2x3 tube torpedo launcher (Mk 32, Mk44 or Mk46), 1x SA-365 Dauphin multi-role helicopter.
