Lockheed Martin Proves Seeker Capabilities for U.S. Army Next-Generation Short-Range Interceptor Competition

The Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) QuadStar™ missile recently successfully completed the Next-Generation Short-Range Interceptor (NGSRI) Seeker Characterization Flight Test (SCFT), a critical risk reduction milestone for the program. The test paves the way for continued testing as the U.S. Army moves into the next phase of the future replacement for the legacy Stinger missile.

MMEV was as close to a multi-mission missile vehicle. Stryker is generally the form factor such a missile truck would need to take.

Developing a MPADS only seems short sighted when so many other missions are out there. All of these family of multi-mission missiles need a manportable version. Ideally the existing Carl Gustavs would serve a manportable launcher to provide even more options but 77mm vs 84mm is a problem though.

The NGSRI initiative is part of the Maneuver Short Range Air Defense, or M-SHORAD, program, which aims to revamp the Army’s mobile air defenses amid a growing threat from drones, hypersonic missiles and other guided munitions.

Sounds like DEW will be in demand.

The Army's fires acquisition portfolio is asking for industry input on production of its Next Generation Short Range Interceptor (NGSRI) a day after RTX subsidiary Raytheon announced wrapping a recent successful demonstration. The short and intermediate effectors for layered defense (SHIELD) project manager published a notice today requesting feedback on the low-rate initial production and full-rate production phases of NGSRI.

Army Widens Stinger Surface-To-Air Missile Replacement Search​

Lockheed and Raytheon are developing competing Stinger replacements now, but the Army wants to put additional designs to the test next year.

The Army is currently aiming to buy 11,000 NGSRI missiles, as well as 2,200 new man-portable launchers, starting in Fiscal Year 2028.
