Does anyone know what McDonnell Model 98 was the proposal for for the F-4M (FGR.Mk.2)? I know that the F-4K (GR. Mk.1) was a Model 98FB and the the proposed (never built) RF-4M was a Model 98HT, but I can't seem to put my finger on just which model lead to the F-4M proposal to the RAF. Any help would be appreciated.

Model numbers for the F-4M:
  • Model 98 JO was an F-4M with an F-4E+ nose for the U.S. Air Force (AEA-128). Designation assigned on October 28, 1966.
  • Model 98 KD was an F-4M for the Royal Air Force (Improved AEA-144). Designation assigned on February 27, 1967.

Thanks Stargazer, but if the RAF ordered 118 F-4Ms in 1965 and the first flight of the YF-4M was 17 Feb 1967, these can't be the proposed models for the original F-4M, they must be enhanced versions which were later proposed like the RF-4M.
