Does anyone know if the Israeli Elta EL/K-1005 Airborne UHF Transceiver of the late 1970s was a full solid-state upgrade to the American AN/ARC-51 UHF aircraft radio? According to pictures in Jane's, the Israeli set used a similar control head to the AN/ARC-51, but its main unit used a different and more slick cabinet compared to the American prototype. The specs of both sets are similar: 3500 channels at 50 kHz spacing, 20 presets, 10W RF output power, 28V DC-powered. The Israeli version, however, had a significantly increased MTBF to 1500 hours, while the AN/ARC-51 was known to have been plagued with high failure rates due to the mixed vacuum tubes and transistorized construction, which was sensitive to shock and vibration during flight.

Were the EL/K-1005s used onboard Israeli Mirage derivatives, like the Nesher and Kfir, and Argentinian Dagger/Fingers?
