Hi,

in my dear Jared Zichek's book, Mother Ships,Parasites and More: Bomber,XC- Heavy Transport & Ficon Studies,
he mentioned that the Douglas Model-1274 was a tailless transport aircraft Project, carried 66 passenger, but in
my dear Tony Butler's book, American Secret Projects: Bombers,Attack and Anti-Submarine Aircraft 1945-1974,
the Model-1274 was a ASW anti-submarine aircraft Project.

And I am asking, who we can believe ?.

Perhaps both were proposed? Looking at your NARA Archives 2-view drawing, it's not hard to envision a variant with a smaller-diameter lower fuselage lobe for surface search radar and weapons bay. So, if the ASW aircraft proposals were 1274A and 1274B, maybe the transport was a '1274C' or some such?

Maybe my dear Apophenia,

but we hope to get answers from the two authors.

From Tony Buttler:

It appears that both are correct. There is also an interceptor. The Douglas drawing list gives the following - I have no other information on this except that 1274 is given as a 'base model number'. From that I assume we may have some form of family of designs (but I cannot be sure on this).

1274G/ATURBO-JET
1274G/A3-V - TURBO JET -
1274AG/A3-V - T34-P-6
1274A3-V - J-57-P-7 ENG.
1274BG/A3-V - J-57-P-7
1274CG/A3-V - J-57-P-7 ENG,
1274RG/A3-V - INTERCEPTOR
