Did the Great Lakes training carrier have any operational value?

Say some how the situation in the Atlantic was going very badly, and the situation in the pacific wouldn’t allow carriers be sent to the Atlantic…would the paddle wheel training carrier had any real operational value to the allies?
Was it simpler and cheaper to build to have been more easily spammed as an ASW escort carrier if necessary?

Otherwise no, freighters and liners for the Great Lakes generally lack the strength for anytime in the Atlantic. Both Sable and Wolverine also lacked a hanger or any kind of armament need for deployments: "Renamed USS Wolverine, she was not equipped with armor, hangar deck, elevators or armaments." Worst case if you're down bad for carrier, you could convert Liberty ships into MACs while you wait for the armada of CVEs to online.
