An uncommissioned Type 055 destroyer. It is reported that the second batch of Type 055 destroyers, comprising six ships, has been fully built. The current total is 14 ships, of which 10 have been commissioned and 4 are yet to be commissioned.

I think we can quite safely suggest that in a case of hot war something would be fitted very fast.

You can't just wave your hands and make deck space appear. And there are no VLS LRASMs.

On an unrelated note, these have to be the prettiest large surface combatants of the modern era, quite easily so. I'll be curious if Italy's DDX can take the beauty crown in the future.

Another 055 on its trial voyage. Judging by the signal flag at the back, its number is 13, and it will probably replace the current 113 Qingdao in the future.

Since the last Type 055 and 052D were launched, it seems like the shipyards haven't started building a new batch of destroyers for a long time...

I’m not sure about the third batch of 055s, no one knows when construction will start. As for the first two batches of 14 055s, yeah.

The CCP supports their tier-1 shipyards with counter-cyclic investments in the form of naval contracts, but with commercial orders being so strong right now, I don't see how they can wait for a downturn before their next order.

The first-generation 052 destroyer, Harbin (112), has been retired, but it won't be long before the number 112 comes back. I think the 12th ship of the 055 is meant to replace it.
