From L'Air Revue 1940,

here is a strange patent for Boulton Paul,to increase the firing range of rear guns.

As proposed for the B.90 bomber.

BTW, small typo in the thread title, its Boulton.
 
Ah, always wondered how those turrets worked. Not the range but the field of fire.

I presume as both gun elements turned in azimuth that they would maintain a slight toed-in alignment for converging fire?
 
Is it just me, or does the gunner's cupola not have any view to the rear in the drawings? It definitely appears the area aft of the glazing is continuous with the lower fuselage, not the glazing.

I'm going to presume that's a mistake on the part of the draughtsman.

ETA: I have seen an explanation of the workings somewhere else, but I can't remember where.
