Boeing-Vertol Model 179 YUH-61A UTTAS / Model 237 LAMPS contender

What a beautiful picture Stargazer2006!

Does anyone know if the USN/US Army had the same conditions impressed upon them by Congress - aka as per the YF-16 / YF-17, that the winning design chosen by the USAF, would be adopted by the USN!
The reason I ask, is due to the USN seemingly just selecting the Sikorsky design, without a fly-off between the Boeing Vertol and Sikorsky designs!

Thank you for sharing, Stéphane,

You're welcome. Glad you guys appreciate the stuff. Here is one more treat, the full-scale mockup of the UTTAS proposal:

I'm really liking these pics, but I really like that color image of the demonstrator.

Interestingly, here's an article that contains a low-quality image of the Model 179 in a totally different paint scheme—the engine carries the name Twin Jet, which was also used for the Boeing Vertol BO-105C, a version of the German Bölkow Bö 105.

I was poking around new posts and I saw the comments on the UTTAS model on e-bay. Made by Piazzai Models of Italy. http://www.piazzaimodels.com/joomla/index.php?lang=en

I've had several of this example and they are not uncommon as indicated in the e-bay discription as there was obviously hard tooling made to produce the model in quantities. I also had several versions in heavy resin and wood in various scales in Navy LAMPS and standard Army. These looked to be in house as Micro West and Pac Min never made these as far as I know.

Here is a blueprint from March 23, 1973. I've tried to clean it up.

I think I prefer the UH-60 from an aesthetic standpoint. Also, wasn't there some talk about the tricycle system of the YUH-61 being less stable than Sikorsky's?

Don't know if this picture has been posted before, but here goes-
It's the Boeing-Vertol YUH-61A with its blades and tail folded ready for transport in a C-130 Hercules!
Yes its hard to forget that the UTTAS was supposed to have been transportable in the venerable Hercules (or as hoped, either the C-14 or C-15!)
It was this C-130 Hercules requirement that dictated the original low rotor hub configuration.
Once again, this is why I thought it strange that the Aerospatiale Puma was a consideration.

On re looking at the following pictures provided by PaulMM this particular photo emphasises showing the 'short main rotor mast' stipulated in the original US Army RfP really well, which if retained, would have undoughtedly have experienced many a 'blade-strike problem's for either Sikorsky or Boeing-Vertol designs.

The rotor mast would no doubt been extended, as was that of the H-60. Given the requirements I do not think the rotor systems were that dissimilar such that the H-61 had more rigidity than the Sikorsky design.
