The retirement of Dragon may not be such a bad thing? Space companies will try to build their own crewed spacecraft, giving the market a wider range of options rather than relying on what is effectively the only commercially available American crewed vehicle.

It's not like SpaceX has some sort of monopoly on manned spaceflight in the US. Other companies can develop capsules and be practically guaranteed to get NASA contracts. The problem is the fact that it's been 15 years since the Shuttle retired, and Dragon's closest competition is now 9 years delayed with now crewed mission currently planned.
