Hi,

No one hears about the Boeing Model-320 ?!.

I received a 3-view drawing of the Boeing Model 320 years ago, from an unknown source.
Twin-hull flying boat, November 1938 design, with 6 engines. Span 200 feet, length 116 feet. Not a fighter at all...

HI ALL
I've found on the French site " air combat le forum"
this 3 views of the Boeing 320 project.

Do you know more ?

Thanks
PAUL

Nice! We have a similarly configured Seversky project somewhere on the forum.

The drawing comes from Putnam Boeing Aircraft since 1916 (Peter M. Bowers). 2nd Edition 1968. Appendix I: selection of unbuilt projects prepared by L.E. Bradford from Boeing project drawings. Page 410.

The associated text is:

A 1938 study for a 8-seat twin-hull Navy patrol aircraft. Six 1,200 hp Wright R2600 Twin Cyclone engines. Span 200 ft, lenght 116 ft, gross weight 134,000 lb

Thanks a lot for the data about this bird.

I've a drawing which I've from a yahoo group. I'm putting here a low resolution version. Contact by pm if need another resolution.

Thanks Paul.

Here are the four pages of the Seversky design. They make for an interesting comparison (note the way the hulls separate to form giant floats).

Sorry I mean previous post is your first post of this topic.
I compared your drawing and Alcides's drawing.

A bit more info...

The model 320 , designed 1936-1938 represented a last ditch effort by Boeing to come up
a candidate for the U.S.Navy's Flying Dreadnough competition.
With the Sikorsky XPBS-1,Consolidated XPB2Y-1 and the Martin XPB2M-1 forthcoming
Buer had no interest in adding an other project.
Some sources mentioned it would have received de VPB designation by the U.S.Navy.

A bit more data to Pome's info.

wing area:410.17 m2
max.t.o. weight 60.781 kg.
max.level speed 319km/h
service ceiling 4.415m
range 11.345Km.

The drawing provided by Alcides is made by Lloyd S.Jones
for the book 'American Flying Boats and Amphibious Aircraft by E.R.Johnston.
I found no sources or info why it shows a slightly different crew gondola
without the glazing at the upper back end.

sources.
PlaneMaker: Boeing MJH Taylor-Janes.
Boeing-FlyPast library
Boeing Aircraft since 1916-Bowers-Putnam
and the already mentioned book by E.R.Johnston.

Paul, "VPB" designated a Navy class of aircraft, in this case the Patrol Bombers. No designation here. "Boeing's VPB flying boat" means it was just their submission in that category of aircraft.
