It appears the first few runs have been done at Hakskeen Pan in the Northern Cape, South Africa. The track is 20km long.
Richard Green, current land speed record holder, wants to try go through the 1000mph barrier, in the car powered by an EJ-200 as used in the Eurofighter Typhoon.

461mph already achieved in test run.

I wondered that too...interesting question.
I suspect it has been loaned to the team by Eurojet perhaps?

It’s an early development engine that was donated by RR. The kick motor is a Nammo H2O2 hybrid. Total thrust is around 45k lbf.

The Aussie Invader V uses a hypergolic rocket of around 60k lbf but I’m not sure of the status of that program.

Heh, reminds me of The Blue Flame. :D

Craig Breedlove has a paper design for a twin-J79 version of Spirit of America but I doubt that will ever see the light of day.

A shame the single-engine design was never driven to it's potential. It was a beauty.

Interesting.
I hadn't realised there was competition.
Bloodhound seems derailed by covid travel restrictions that led to finance being finally pulled.

:(

The Aussie one reminds me of this:
