U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin implementing a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on April 13 at 10 a.m. ET, in accordance with the President’s proclamation.
 
Perhaps a variant of the embargo strategy discussed by Krugman and Brooks I posted on March 21:


At this stage it's fairly hard to tell whether that's what the U.S. is attempting here. I've seen both cautiously optimistic and highly dubious reactions from experts who can put their personal preferences and feelings aside in commenting on the matter. From reporting it's very clear that the Chinese were very active behind the scenes (via Pakistan) in trying to get the fighting to stop and Hormuz being opened up for traffic, it remains to be seen how they'll react now as if this is a de facto embargo strategy along Brooks' lines it requires some (object) permanence and patience to work.
