In the Wikipedia article on Lawrence Wackett http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Wackett there is an intriguing reference to the Warbler, the first aircraft of Wackett's own design, as the runner up in the "1924 Low-Powered Aeroplane Competition (held at Richmond in December that year)."

Now I just LOVE the many fun designs that came out of the British competitions at Lympne around the same time...does anyone have any info on this or other pre-war lightplane competitions Down Under?

Thanks!

Matthew

PS--I found this image of the Warbler!

The Low-Powered Aeroplane Competition of 1924 is also discussed in detail on pages 21 to 23 of John Dunn's book Comeng: A History of Commonwealth Engineering. 1921-1955, Volume 1. Besides the Wackett Warbler, a Smith & Waddington biplane with one Blackburn Tomtit piston engine was earmarked for the competition.
