Apollo (capsule only) for private sector ?

As title says... in the 80's firms like Spacetran and Astrotech tried to buy Shuttle, only to discover that was really not feasible.

Now we have Space X and T/space building their own manned sspacecraft from the Corona.

But what about the Apollo capsule ? Was it difficult to handle ?

Well was this idea ever considered (say after ATSP, around 1976) ?

I would guess, by the time the Apollo capsule (and indeed space travel period) stopped being a "gee-whiz" thing for NASA and scientific experiments/exploration only, technology allowed the private sector to find better means (such as the capsules being built now).
