I did read something whereby the design basis of the A300 was "don't do whatever Boeing and MDD are doing". Now that's probably a flippant remark by someone on the design team but when youve worked on both, you tend to see things that, on an Airbus, are clearly opposite to a Boeing, such as routing of pipes and cables, the operation of slats, the layout inside wheelwells and so on.

From AvWeek May 1978: El Al ordered two A300Bs.

But by January 1979 the order was abandoned as the Finance Ministry blocked financing for them.

I would say that we should put such information nowhere, actually. If we start listing every prospective order that gets canceled for every aircraft type, we'll clog up the threads and make them much less readable. This isn't a new project they're discussing; the A300B4 had been in service for four years by 1978. Just for the 747, that would be article snippets about 195 extra orders of the produced variants that were never delivered. The only time it would be relevant is when we're discussing orders for variants that were never built, since that fits into how they would have been employed in service.
 
I somewhat disagree, cancelled orders for equipment, military or civilian are well within the groups subject purview, eg. Iran Air Concorde, Israeli Chieftan tanks, et al :)
