Hi,

the Aerosptiale X-250 was a project for airliner and powered
by three Rolls-Royce/Snecma M45 jet engines.

This was a contest to design a commercial aircraft that was an even bigger heap of *&$# than the VFW 614, right?

In regards to the comment about the VFW-614, in regards to the Aerospatiale X-250, it was not at all like that. In fact it was designed as an apparent reaction to the HS-146. As mentioned in the caption to the illustration provided by Hesham, it was felt that a all European design, rather than a design which used US power plants was the way forward to project a pan-European approach. The X-250 was designed as a 70-80 seat inter-city transport. Further details can be seen in the attached text from Air Enthusiast's August 1973 issue.

The M45 was a good little turbofan that never got a chance (except that German bizarre airliner with the engines on top of the wing): military or civilian, nobody used it.
Could have become a turbofan Atar replacement, but the M53 was already there for the job...
