A C130 military cargo plane departing Azerbaijan for Turkey crashed on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border. Search and rescue efforts have been initiated in coordination with Azerbaijani and Georgian authorities.

If the transponder code that pinged on ADS-B is correct, the aircraft involved was 68-1609, one of the former Royal Saudi Air Force Hercules’ that underwent the ERCIYES upgrade at 2'nci Hava Bakım Fabrika Müdürlüğü (2nd Air Maintenance Factory Directorate) at Kayseri-Erkilet. The transporter was flying with call sign TUAF543.

Always unfortunate. The two hypothesis presented are both viable. In several video you can see the tail section, having seperated falling or on the ground. It does seem #2 prop has seperated as well.

None the less 20 good Turks have fallen today.
 
There was an incident some time back where one of the blades from the prop was ejected and caused damage to a Turkish C-130E, the damage wasn't catastrophic and the pilots managed to land safely...

When Embraer offered joint development/production of C-390 back in the early 2010s, Turkey should have made use of it...

Given that the aircraft was a C-130E (Built in the mid-1960s) and it crashed in pieces I'd say it broke up mid-air due to catastrophic structural-failure as a result of structural-fatigue in its' airframe.

Even though I do not know this Turkish aircrew and their families, these aviation tragedies always seem more somber what with Dad and Granddad both having been in the US Navy and having each been pilots for a season of their lives and Dad having survived a helo crash in the 1960s.
May the families be comforted and may the cause be discovered and action taken to prevent similar from happening to other people.

It's a Herc, with proper maintenance, it can keep flying for a long time. Pakistani Hercs are even older than Turkish ones, yet they continue to operate with the same intensity.

Besides, the TurAF is famous for its maintenance crew's dedication and hard work, more than most of its other aspects.
