I checked, no thread for this one.
It was developed by RCA between early 1956 and september 1958 when it was canned. Before and after these dates, ( sigh...) the prefered option was the MX-1179 / MA-1.
While the Sparrow II missile is well known, Astra 1 remains kind of mystery. It has been...
I was wondering how much these two pieces of electronic equipment contributed to the growth in weight of the F-86D/K over the F-86.
Does anybody has some data? Also, I understand the MG-4 fire control system what somewhat less advanced than the Huges E-4 that was exclusive to the US F-86D. What...

I've tried to collect all the British Type designations for electornics like Sonars, Radars, Jammers etc
Here is the list:
If anybody know more designations and their design/cancellation/introduction dates that would be great:

I was looking at the SDASM flickr pictures dump and found a Huey modified with retractable skids, ostensibly to afford a 360 degrees field of view to the large rectangular antenna mounted on the bottom of the cabin. I was not aware of such installation.
It reminds me of the FOPEN radar...
"To The Stars" released a new ufo video, much more detailed. Could it be a test missile? Or drone? Does not appear to have a plume and does not lose any altitude. See for yourself.

From the early 2000s (announced 2001), this one used MESAR technology, I assume its the end result of the notional ABM configurations mentioned here.
I am guessing that the numbers after EWACS refer to the number of modules...?

Hello, I am air-enthusiast from Russia. Sorry for my bad English!
Probably B-52 is the best strategic aircraft of the XX century. I especially interested in B-52 early variants and I have questions about the oldest "Buff"`s avionics.

I`ve uncovered this image from a 1946 soviet report on german radar. It relates to the "Rettin-M" AA radar, installed in a Flakvierling. It was one of the few ( the only? ) on-carriage AA radar tried by Germany in WW2. There are evidence of a "Rettin-L", which I assume to mean "Land". Therefore...
Before ASTOR (which became Sentinel) there was CASTOR (Corps Airborne Stand-Off Radar), which came in two forms as follows:
Army: CASTOR-I, this was Britten-Norman Islander with the RSRE / Thorn-EMI SAR*- this aircraft has been relatively well documented
RAF: CASTOR-C, this was to use the...

Over the course of the life of the Talos system in the USN, the SPG-56 and SPG-61 Missile Fire Control radars were developed to replace the SPG-49 used to guide the Talos missile. Prototypes of each were built but these radars were never introduced into service. Either one would have, no doubt...

One of the limitations of the UK's small carriers was/is a lack of an airborne early warning aircraft such as an E-2 Hawkeye. Indeed, this was apparently one of the deficiencies of the UKs air strategy during the Falklands - although Nimrods did fly from Ascension.
Has the UK MOD ever...

Now that BSPB 4 has revealed that the RN's NIGS programme was looking at massive missiles similar to the USN Typhon system in the very early 60s, it would be fun to imagine what these systems might have looked like if they had gone into service.
The USN had more or less settled on a nuclear...
The development of Radar was crucial to the success of the UK in World War II until the Allies were ultimately successful. From May 1940 to May 1942, pioneering research into Radar was undertaken at Worth Matravers on the South coast of Dorset. The Penley Radar Archive...
