The russians weren't so bad with war, one would think jet drones with manpads on them could deal with helicopters.

Yes, sensing, command and control and all that. But it should be possible to set a trap with some mission planning. I guess there is also the problem of poor industry limiting what what can be done.

It seems drone interceptors haven't worked ,now a SPAAG will be used to try and defend the Kiev bridge from steel cutting gerans

Ukrainian presidential advisor on the development of defense technologies Serhii "Flash" reports that the recent Russian Geran-4/5 jet-drone strikes on targets across Kyiv, including bridges, are likely being enabled by Russian operatives within Kyiv activating mesh radio repeaters.︀︀︀︀Flash states that some of these strikes, including the one targeting the SBU headquarters, occurred when there were no other drones in the air which, would be required to form an aerial mesh network of repeaters and transmitters. A debris analysis also reportedly concluded that none of the drones are equipped with communications systems necessary for these strikes. It's also impossible accurately strike the cables or support structures of the bridge without the drones remaining online until the very moment of the strike.︀︀︀︀He estimates that there may only be 1-3 of these operatives within Kyiv, and emphasises that they are very difficult to find. The anti-drone technology in this particular case would be locating the mesh repeaters and elimination of the russian spies.

"The device provides 360-degree protection through two broadband jammers operating in the 2.1-2.8 GHz range. They can jam Russian FPV drones without interfering with the platform's own Starlink communication link.

The device weighs about 2.4 kg, according to Dignitas Fund, which is working on the EW system alongside the manufacturer. If the system's final tests are successful, it is slated for mass production."

Irony of the moment; as the gun is dead and dead weight, Ukraine apparently now uses fighter gun ammo it's running out even of it... with few available fighters holding up the entire "effector spam".
FFARs got their revenge, now it's the gun. Somewhat hilarious.

"The pilot used one of the fighter’s two built-in 30 mm DEFA 554 autocannons rather than missiles. Each cannon carries 125 rounds and has a rate of fire of up to 1,800 rounds per minute. Destroying a target with cannon fire requires a fighter to close in much more than when using air-to-air missiles. According to published specifications, the Banderol has a cruising speed of 520-560 kilometers per hour and can reach 620-650 kph. Its stated range is up to 500 km.

Using a cannon to intercept such targets also helps conserve significantly more expensive air-to-air missiles. In late September, France provided Ukraine with a new batch of MICA air-to-air missiles and 30 mm ammunition specifically for its Mirage 2000 fighters."

Wonder if they could put air-bursting rounds in them, or would it be too dangerous with regards FoD ingestion??
