Here are some nice Northrop images of the X-4 from 1948
Cutaway Northrop X-4 "Bantan" aerodynamic research aircraft 4th of the "X" series at the former NACA (today NASA), developed by the Northrop firm that had extensive experience in the construction of flying wings and tailless aircraft, from a distance it seems a cleaner evolution of the Messerschmitt Me-163 Komet, but powered by two small jets of only 700 kg of thrust.
Here’s the interesting segment:
Interviewer: You showed a picture of the Blackbird up there.
Jared Isaacman: You sure that’s a Blackbird?
Interviewer: Well, okay. What was that picture that you showed up there?
Isaacman: Like I said, NASA’s getting back in the business of flying high and fast again.
Interviewer: I mean, that doesn’t seem like a space vehicle. It seems like an Earth-air vehicle.
Isaacman: Yeah. The first “A” in NASA is our aeronautics portfolio.
