Exessive deletion by the mods

Hello SP crew,

I'm noticing an ever increased appetite by at least some mods to arbitrarily delete posts in an inconsistent and sometimes really not comprehensible manner, meaning I see no particular logic behind it. Sometimes posts that would be appropriate to delete stay and posts that are on topic are deleted "reason: offtopic". Latest example, deletion of the news that 3 Kuwaiti Typhoons have been destroyed by Iranian missile strikes. Maybe i have missed something, but there was no further discussion, just the info and me wondering, about possible looses of Typhoons as bases hosting these were attacked and the notion that at least one of these bases was short of HAS. i consider it report worthy in a thread about the Eurofighter Typhoon that I have created 20 years ago, without a "NEWS ONLY" or whatever "ONLY" tag, as long as it's Typhoon related. This is just the most recent example and it becomes increasingly frustrating I have to say. Ofcourse I understand that it's not easy to moderate and maybe there is just an "overload" for the mods these days and they are a bit nervous and "pull the trigger" sometimes too quickly.

We shouldn't be repeating fake news on here. It is good practice to consider the truth in such reports and who might benefit from them.
Taking the time to confirm such information and get it right is better than rushing to be the first.

Well, the original post on X posted to this topic is by Alan Warnes, who is an aviation journalist from Key Publishing. So its at least possible there's something to it and I don't see any reason to delete immediately.

We know the airbase was hit, and that Typhoons deployed there.

Part of the reason from the trimming of posts in the Typhoon thread was that they were more about Iran war discussions than Typhoon specific. Just because a particular platform is hit or a weapon is used, doesn't mean that it is relevant for posting - see following from rules:

No "war porn". Posts purely on operational use and combat employment are largely off-topic except inasmuch as they relate to or highlight aspects of design and technology which is the primary forum focus.

Also, when posts start to devolve into back and forth commentary or arguments about whether a strike happened or not, it becomes even more of a reason to trim.

Finally, we have a News Only thread for the Iran war but I note a few members seem to be trying to get around this by posting obviously Iran war posts in other threads using the tenuous link of a particular weapons system being used/targetted as their apparent justification for posting elsewhere.

Fair points Greg. All Iran war related news should go in the Iran war topic unless, as noted, it provides insights to specific design or technology aspects of the specific system.

That's ultimately a fair point to make and I agree. But I feel like this Pandoras Box has been opened a good while ago (longer than I've been a member for example). And I can see how it seems arbitrary to some when it's being more enforced recently (which is good) than previously.

No censorship is impartial, which benefits your mindset harms others, but moderators are (still) human and have their own tendencies, too.

I remember early in the Iran war I posted in a "tomahawk in operations" thread a video about the Minab incident and where it seems like a TLAM pierces ground but doesn't detonate. I asked if it looks like a detonation because I saw black debris (couldn't discern if just soil or smoke as well - cuts off early and low quality).
It turned out later the missile was indeed a dud.

My post was deleted saying it was inappropriate. I never understood what operations were meant by the thread name. I thought military operations.
