Domain name expired briefly

Well, havent been checking my emails while on holiday so i missed a reminder to renew the domain name. Done now, so everything should be fine.

Yeah i think the domain host probably could have been better with the reminders but they charge a reactivation fee so i guess its not in their financial interest to be too helpful.

My own provider covers their financial interest by automatically extending everything for another year, unless I have explicitly cancelled a domain (or the whole hosting contract) during the past year.

DNS changes can take a while to fully propagate. Sounds like you might be hitting multiple different DNS servers, some of which are up to date and some of which are not.

Indeed.
My WiFi connection at home still gives me the "Domain parking page". But when I switch off WiFi on my phone and therefore connect via my phone's service provider, the forum comes up just fine.

Chrome maintains its own DNS cache, so probably you usually use Firefox, which had the incorrect DNS value cached, but switching to Chrome you got a fresh and correct DNS record.

I could register the name for 10 years, I have considered from time to time whether to register a new name instead, as .co.uk isn't really accurate - neither the server nor I are currently in the UK.

It will be a DNS issue upstream, likely at the ISP level. I can't fix that. secretprojects.co.uk domain TTL is 5 mins, noone should cache the domain longer than that, but while it was expired that might have changed perhaps.

For what it's worth, I have a few alerts in AVG's log saying SPF was script infected.
"We've safely aborted connection on www.secretprojects.co.uk because it was infected with Script:94H-gen [Trj]."
From 24 Dec 2025 01:15 to 09:59 CET.

That was when it was redirected to the domain parking site. I doubt it was actively malicious, i wouldnt expect the registrar to do that, but it might be grabbing all url paths and redirecting them which is a bit dodgy.
