The Phantom II had a cannon. The F-101 did not.If they’re finally fully committing to stealth, to the point of the design not having a cannon, then Phantom lll could be fitting…
My bad?The Phantom II had a cannon. The F-101 did not.
Not that hard when the CSAF himself basically admitted it:I still cannot fathom how people can actually believe that the designation has anything to do with the 47th president of the US.
F-47 DominaTorF-47 STORMY DANIELS. You heard it here first.
Not until the F-4E version in the USAF. The USN Phantoms never did get a built-in gun.The Phantom II had a cannon. The F-101 did not.
And you truly believe he didn't just say that on Twitter to cozy up to Trump? Not that hard when the CSAF himself basically admitted it:
... by telling what actually happened? I think that IS plausible.say that on Twitter to cozy up to Trump?
He's the Chief of Staff of the Air Force. If he says it, its true. And you truly believe he didn't just say that on Twitter to cozy up to Trump?
I remain unconvinced.
For a name, how about F-47A Vindicator (Vindiciae Perseverantiae), Vindication of Persistence. Just having fun, sounds appropriate especially with Boeing winning the program in spite of the many issues and obstacles they have been working through.
Spectre and Phantom could work too.I still really like Voodoo II for the name.
Spectre is still in use by the AC-130s, though a Phantom III could work.Spectre and Phantom could work too.
I forgot about the AC-130s using the name Spectre. Could Eagle II work? Heck, even something Owl related could be fitting. F-47 Grey Owl.Spectre is still in use by the AC-130s, though a Phantom III could work.
The F-15EX is the Eagle III forgot about the AC-130s using the name Spectre. Could Eagle II work? Heck, even something Owl related could be fitting. F-47 Grey Owl.
The project office patch suggests a name like "Thunderbird," "Firebird," or "Phoenix"
Pheonix - to have raise itself from the ashes that was the NGAD review? The project office patch suggests a name like "Thunderbird," "Firebird," or "Phoenix"
I'd eliminate Firebird as it's associated with Slavic folklore (and a famous composition by Stravinsky). Thunderbird is much more American (sorry, Gerry) but the graphic style suggests a flaming Phoenix. The project office patch suggests a name like "Thunderbird," "Firebird," or "Phoenix"
Sabre II would have been the perfect name for a hypothetical production X-32… and certainly more interesting than ‘Erne’.F-47 Thunderchief II
F-47 Sabre II

Voodoo II and Phantom III are definitely the picks I'm also leaning towards."Phantom III"/"Voodoo II" or "Velociraptor (the Dinosaur)". No in-between.
Nice suggestions, but deep down we all know it’s going to be something along the lines of ‘Tactical Supersonic Attack and Reconnaissance’:
the Tsar.
Early F-117 patches had Dragons in it. Other early nicknames for the F-117 were the Black Widow, and Wobbin Goblin. This Phoenix could be a temporary name for the F-47, not it's real name, respectfully. The project office patch suggests a name like "Thunderbird," "Firebird," or "Phoenix"
