Hi team,
I hope you all are doing well.

Forums provide medium for -
- global chat when people can't find others to discuss F2F on special or skilled topics.
- public level info sharing.
- knowledge expansion.
- citizens' views & opinions.
- showcasing personal talent like CADs, drawings, etc.
- some news.

This forum is one of the oldest & best ones for not just leisure but also serious technical info.
There are many technically qualified & experienced professionals from various domains also here including myself.
Very few or hardly any forum showcases personal talent like CADs, etc.

But, if any thread is locked abruptly, w/o formal note or note looking personal, especially when -
- members are sleeping, in school/college/office/elsewhere
- members have done big homework & have a good draft, about to post
- members who might have made some CAD, drawing, etc
Then trust me, it comes as a big puzzling shock to serious enthusiast members. Now they may not have anybody to talk on a particular topic.
It might look like suppression of views & opinions.
This might compell people to flock to other forums, reducing incoming traffic & popularity.
This is also a learning not to wait too long to post.

I noticed AI-171 thread suddenly giving error while replying. Upon refreshing page, it appears to be locked with a note which looks personal "i think.....".
The draft is also not visible anymore. Fortunately, i'm habituated to save my drafts & data before refreshing pages to deal with any kind of crash or disruption.
Everybody is talking about technologies, machines, components, etc.
In an investigation after the prelim report, the final report could take 1 year or more. As new events will happen the media will shift focus on current affairs, so there may not be any update till final report & thread can remain locked entire year.

At least give a buffer of 24 hours, with a formal & believable note, not personal, so that members can post drafts after their education/job hours.

I hope there will be good understanding b/w us & the abruptly locked thread re-opens soon.
Thanks & regards,
Good day!

“Recent media reports on the Air India 171 crash are premature and speculative,” NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy said on 18 July. “India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau just released its preliminary report. Investigations of this magnitude take time.”

"On 17 July, the AAIB issued an “Appeal”, saying, “It has come to our attention that certain sections of the international media are repeatedly attempting to draw conclusions through selective and unverified reporting”.

“Such actions are irresponsible… We urge both the public and the media to refrain from spreading premature narratives that risk undermining the integrity of the investigative process,” it adds. “The AAIB appeals to all concerned to await publication of the final investigation report.”

Citing that document, the NTSB’s Homendy said on 18 July, “We fully support the AAIB’s public appeal… and will continue to support its ongoing investigation”."

It's not a spectator sport.

It may have escaped your notice but the forums are intended to discuss Unbuilt Projects and Aerospace Technology. Not "Air Crash Investigations". Yes there are technical elements involved but we are now at a place where the likely cause seems to be human. Given that the topic is generating reported posts and arguments I'm not seeing much purpose in future discussions unless new evidence emerges.

Ultimately I can reopen the topic if you can convince me it's worth the headache.

If we come across something that IS relevant to a locked thread, what's the sop? I'm pretty sure you don't want us to send it to you for approval.

Bro,
in that case you shouldn't have opened an accident thread. Did you open it just to blame pilots?
But discussion is fuel for forum when people can't find others for F2F talk on special/skilled topics.

Theoretically all angles are still open.
But that's your personal opinion on the accident cause, that too when neither you nor anybody else can connvince that there is any stupid pilot error or homicide based on such incomplete, improperly formatted prelim report being criticized gobally now.

It may have escaped your notice now WSJ & other media houses have been slammed & threatened legally against personal defamation of pilots.
The Indians themselves are angry on who leaked the report in non-working hours, that too after midnight IST on a weekend.

Theoretically, the FO is also being suspected to have made some mistake & intentionally question to confuse CVR & investigation.

Pilots & other people who knew captain Sumeet Sabharwal have said on media that he was stable & studious person, trainer hence reserved.
People like neighbors of FO Clive Kunder also said that he was nice young man.
Otherwise, in general, criminals, frauds, scammers can be of any nature.

On every cause globally people are divided. It doesn't mean one will start enforcing his/her opinion on others.

Everybody can keep their opinion, that's what runs a public forum.
Now many other forums are running their threads on this accident except this site reducing internet traffic & popularity.

Rest is your choice & consequences.

Thanks & regards,
Good Day!

> These responses are to caution people against pilot defamation based on incomplete prelim report.
> There is huge differene b/w a news channel or media house & a casual chat forum.

It's not a spectator sport.
> RIGHT, it is not soccer, cricket, etc but Aeronautical engineering is combo of multiple disciplines like mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Computer & hence needs qualified citizens to discuss with publicly verifiable info.
> Today every country has 100s of 1000s of citizens qualified in various domains & they can't be penalised for F2F or online CASUAL chat or Tech info exchange.

Bro,
in that case you shouldn't have opened an accident thread. Did you open it just to blame pilots?

I didn't create the thread, not was I especially interested outside of making sure the people I know near Ahmedabad (Zainabad) were not onboard.

Now many other forums are running their threads on this accident except this site reducing internet traffic & popularity.

Rest is your choice & consequences.

I have no real desire for this site to become "AirAccidentInvestigations.co.nz". It was news, it was aircraft-related, there were some big questions on how it could have happened - so it was a valid topic. Divisive topics however tend to get shut down.

What, precisely, was this post you were preparing to post in the topic that I prevented?

> Today every country has 100s of 1000s of citizens qualified in various domains & they can't be penalised for F2F or online CASUAL chat or Tech info exchange
How can I, as a casual observer, recognise the relevant expertise of those citizens qualified in various domains?
Most of them don't even divulge their names.

Just like in your neighborhood there are people of various professions & of different age/experience & desginations.
Just like you recognise a doctor, banker, different types of engineers, techinicians, mechanics, etc as our daily life passes.
EDIT - people maintain anonymity so that someone won't target their personal social media accounts & professional LinkedIn kind of accounts. let's keep in mind that this is global casual chat just like daily F2F chat.

To some people, accident is so offensive or contradictory to website's agendas then it could have been frozen immediately.

No casual chat forum can become official investigation source even if qualified citizens join in there. It's just casual chat like F2F we do with our school/college/office mates, neighbors, relatives, friends, etc. Internet has brought global human society closer. Most people for leisure like actual sports, movies, web series, politics, etc. Very few leave those & focus on special machines like jets, at max bikes, cars, gadets, etc.

What, precisely, was this post you were preparing to post in the topic that I prevented?
Well, it was going to be a reply with screenshots of real jets on engine idle/100%/max RPMs of GenX & RR Trent engines, spool up/down time, relight time, RPMs needed for relight & electricity, alternate power sources, chances of survival, etc.

EDIT - people maintain anonymity so that someone won't target their personal social media accounts & professional LinkedIn kind of accounts
... and I can then not check their credentials. They could just be more basement dwellers.

I know their names, I know their faces.
I am wading through myriad anonymous replies right now.

In actor profession faces are important.
In other jobs like Engineer, doctor, etc, names & faces don't decide qualification, job, experience, designation. Most attractive to most ugly ones can do any job of their capability, choice matching job requirement.
Myriad anonymous replies are there on every 100s of threads on any forum.

Are you suggesting to have all members link their social media account here?

... and I can then not check their credentials. They could just be more basement dwellers.
Are you suggesting to have all members link their LinkedIn account & submit school, college, office records, CV here?o_O:eek:

Why'are you, me, others on this or any forum?
Casual chat forums need only email or social media accounts for registration, not school, college academic degree details, professional CV & experience letters, RIGHT?????
But if you wanna join for fellowship in some private thinktank then you may have to submit those papers.

Basement dwellers having constant laptop (electricity) & internet access???????????????? o_O
& sharing TECHNICAL pics, videos, graphs, calculations, diagrams, CADs, etc?????????????:p

No.
Are you suggesting to have all members link their LinkedIn account & submit school, college, office records, CV here?
Again, no.
????????????????
Terry Pratchett wrote that excessive use of exclamation/question marks is a sure sign of mental instability. He wasn't a professional psychologist, so I never took that as gospel.

You might want to calm down a bit?

No.

Again, no.

Are you referring to this person?
What has he to do with any discipline of Engineering?
This is very old tactic to indirectly offend others.

My "????????" was actaully reflecting my LOL moment which i shared with emojis too & YET you being MSc in Biology & experienced computer programmer, on Aviation & Military casual chat forum, is indirectly personally attacking other members as "basement dwellers", mentally unstable, but their profile shows as some kind of qualified & experienced technical professionals.

The data, calculations, diagrams, calculations, graphs, pics, vids, CADs, etc shared by members depict a lot about their personality.

Signed, Low IQ Techie, B.Tech. in Computer Technology with average grades,
- 20+ yrs experience- started as L1 tech support engineer -> L2 tech support enginer -> SME+trainer -> Tech lead of tech admin team -> Consultant.
- dealing with datacenter equipments like SAN/NAS storage primarily & secondarily with & N/w switches, routers.
- worked with firms & projects of OEMs DELL-EMC, HP, Hitachi, NetApp, Cisco, VMware, IBM & Service Providers like British Telecom, Accenture, Cognizant, etc, customers are all big banks & all kings of big industries.
- These jobs have assicated courses of 3-4 levels (Associate, Professional, Expert, Architect) like CCNA/NP/IE, VMware VCP/AP/DX, Redhat RHCSA/CE, MicroSoft MCSA/P, NetApp NCDA/IE, etc.
- Although i was excellent in coding but couldn't become coder bcoz solving long numericals of hardcore physics, chemistry, maths didn't interest me hence average grades while coder needs very high grades.

I hope this is enough for casual chat on aviation & military machines, components.

Now you left me & other techies on this forum a memory - A person with MSc. in biology, on Aviation/Military forum, discussing on Boeing-787, calls experienced IT engineer & all such techies of some disciplines, as basement dweller, mentally unstable, etc.o_O:p

Are you referring to this person?
Yes. I am a fan of his humorous and often insightful writings.
This is very old tactic to indirectly offend others.
It was part of jocularly advising you to calm down.
experienced IT engineer
That's me as well, after my career change, including keeping up with the IT field. Of 38 years. Still not an aerospace expert. I received my M.Sc. in 1986.
all such techies
Hey! I resemble that remark!
Not all of them, I assure you. I was merely reflecting on excessive use of exclamation/question marks. I could have added a smiley face - see :) ?
physics, chemistry, maths
I received quite some education in those during my biology studies. Cybernetics too. When coming to grips with neurosciences, all those come into play. As well as in other areas of biology, it is a wide field.

I feel we are drifting from the original topic.

If we come across something that IS relevant to a locked thread, what's the sop? I'm pretty sure you don't want us to send it to you for approval.
Let me know, and I'll probably reopen the topic, unless its a permanently toxic subject. Sometimes topics just need a break.

It was part of jocularly advising you to calm down.
I appreciate your calming concern but indirectly offending others is not a matured way to calm others, especially when both sides have some type of technical qualification & experience.

That's me as well, after my career change, including keeping up with the IT field. Of 38 years. Still not an aerospace expert. I received my M.Sc. in 1986.
> So being retired now & having all life experience you can understand not to go astray of topics & agendas & indirectly offend others down to the level of basement dwellers, mentally unstable, etc.
> CASUAL CHAT forums not meant for experts.
> High salaried Experts simply don't have time for CASUAL CHAT forums but do their overwhelming job then may be attend to invitations at Universities, big media houses, think tanks, etc & then enjoy their remaining time with family, friends in best of hotels, resorts, etc.

Hey! I resemble that remark!
Not all of them, I assure you. I was merely reflecting on excessive use of exclamation/question marks. I could have added a smiley face - see :) ?
> The effect is same. At least both of us being techically qualified & experienced don't have to waste time on use of emojis, exclamation & question mark.
> Also, that's an important thing to realize that writing doesn't indicate exact tone, emotions, situation, like audio/video.
Same thing in this incomplete prelim crash report Vs full CVR+FDR data.

I received quite some education in those during my biology studies. When coming to grips with neurosciences, all those come into play. As well as in other areas of biology, it is a wide field.
> My heartiest congratulations to you on your achievements in Biology domain.
> Engineering is also vary vast - Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Computer, etc. And Aeronautics is combo of all these.
> But neither i was interested in too much physics, chemistry, maths based studies, higher qualification, nor CASUAL CHAT require it.

Let me know, and I'll probably reopen the topic, unless its a permanently toxic subject. Sometimes topics just need a break.
Buddy,
As Aircraft is complex & has many types of systems, the focus will change to different part every few days-weeks.
Now news reports say that tail section is being looked at for small fire, etc.
Then they may shift to engines, then electricals, then hydraulics, then maintenance, etc, etc.

The lone survivor said he heard loud bang which can be -
- possible compressor stall & flame-out due to hot weather, so meteorology & engines will be checked.
- foreign object or something loose from gears striking the body & getting into aft avionic bay & damaing something central, like in Concorde crash where a piece of metal from other landed jet picked up by gear slammed the wing tanks.

So many things are there which need elaborated discussion with diagrams, pics, vids, calculations, etc.
Why so hesitant on discussing technology & machine components?
Don't you realize what people globally might say about a Global forum abrupt actions?

Thanks & regards,
Good Day!

Many systems & components means many confusions, misunderstandings occupying our mind forever if not cleared.
A small example -
Currently many people are saying that CVR should capture the sound of Fuel switches.
The full CVR would reveal a lot of things drastically changing people's thinking.

But coincident with the time just after T/o when fuel cutoff happened, there is at least 1 switch which is auto-operated by FMC, not by pilots -
AUTOBRAKE knob turning from RTO to OFF.
It is located just below gear lever handle.

But the CLICK sounds plural. I wonder if more knobs, switches are auto-moved like this.

What a technial coincidence with AI-171 where some people are expecting Fuel switch off clicks around this time. I don't expect the investigation team would get confused with this click, especially when FDR data has revealed everything by now.
1753097584675.png

Here is a generic cockpit video where i observed the knob auto-rotate -

This is the most nothing post of nothingness I can imagine.

"Some people think maybe the cockpit voice recorder might pick up the sound of the switches being switched, it might or maybe it wouldn't".

It's literally pointless.

This might compell people to flock to other forums, reducing incoming traffic & popularity.
This is not a disadvantage when the posts which would have been made are not relevant to the subject of the forum.
> CASUAL CHAT forums not meant for experts.
You might be surprised at the number of people on here with deep industry knowledge. The reasons why they might not wish to broadcast their names and qualifications should be obvious.

Such people are bread & butter of casual chat forums, no matter what you, me, others imagine.
Those who are present in multiple forums have seen many unimaginable & pointless things.

You're free to scan all pages & point out which ones are irrelevant to subject of forum
Some forums have additional reaction buttons for informative, detailed post, etc. Perhaps this forum can implement such feature from XENFORO including "irrelevant post" reaction.

No, i'm not surprised at all being an experienced techie myself.
I already mentioned the obvious reason that they might be targeted on social media & professional sites like LinkedIn.
It is not me who is questioning anybody's capability.
Those experts have been stopped to share their expertise "anonymously". Why the fear being anonymous? Then what's the use of being present on any forum? How will forum function?

A "CASUAL CHAT" forum doesn't have dozens of paragraphs and multiple photos per posts.
:rolleyes:o_O depends on how people want to chat, how much info they have.
Google for Defence & Aviation forums, you'll get many.
How to classify chat, F2F or online? What's the diff. b/w casual/professional forums? What type of members are eligible? How registration should be done? To what extent people can/should be verified?
Even before opening a website these things are thought, right?

But this is not the agenda of this feedback-thread.
Those who don't wan't to discuss on particular topic can focus on numerous other threads.
I've a simple request not to abruptly freeze current affair thread based on personal choice. Rest is up to admins to consider or reject. No issues. I'll check other threads.

Everybody can keep their opinion, that's what runs a public forum.
Now many other forums are running their threads on this accident except this site reducing internet traffic & popularity.

This is a private forum that is partially open to the public for free.
Forum admins and owners set the rules and do what they want.
It's mentioned in the terms and services below

So if Overscan decided he wanted to suddenly delete all the posts here and focus exclusively on content talking about cheeseburgers and yaks, he totally can.

There are many private forums like this partially open to public for free, also on FB, Discord, etc, who's purposes i've mentioned already. Like i said many people go to forums when they can't find people F2F. This is just leisure activity for me. Since 30 years in my school days i was aviation & defence fan, watching Discovery channel, NatGeo channel, History Channel, etc, expanding my knowledge. And here also i found lots of Aero stuff.

So I'm not challenging any rule or the staff. Do whatever you want with your website, choice is yours, outcome also yours. Website activity could be visible globally depending upon forum/thread settings.

I noticed other crash threads also, like Jeju crash, etc.
So I'm just giving feedback & requesting to continue discussing on B-787 systems w.r.t. the crash. If 24 hr buffer can be given then nice. Accept/reject the request, your choice. No issues. I'll check other threads as usual.

Thanks & regards,
Good Day!

Just because you've been to 4chan does not give you the right to actually inflict those unimaginable and pointless things, e.g., your ramblings, on us in this forum.

So would you kindly stop posting until you have something of actual value to post?

Kindly don't misunderstand & impulsively abuse others.
What is "4chan"? What rambling? Are you saying that w/o Aero-degree people can't post anything?
I'm not calling anything pointless. The admin called people referring to switch sounds in CVR as pointless, so please go clarify with him.
Before you accuse anybody, 1st understand what's going on, basically i'm requesting free discussion for members & i'm getting sandwiched from both sides.
Bcoz forums have 20s to retired people from various backgrounds with different comprehensions, things will have different value for different people. Those who can't find value can ignore & move on to other threads.
Otherwise do let the audience know exact examples of what you consider valuable so that next time audience wil try their best to satisfy you.
