Mr. Otto E. Szekely designed and built two light low-wing single seat monoplanes,called SR-3 & SR-5,they are
the same,but with different engine,1928
Actually, SR-3 and SR-5 are different ENGINES, of 3 and 5 cylinders. That was the main product of his company, the Szekely Aircraft & Engine Co, of Holland Mi.
He then designed one plane, the Flying Dutchman, of which he produced a small quantity but never secured certification. Then went bankrupt.

But this earlier aircraft is different ?!;

Williams

Szekely Aircraft & Engine Co, Holland MI.
Monoplane c.1927 = OlwM; 150hp Hisso A. POP: 1, specially built by Szekely for W C Williams of San Antonio TX [910]. Crashed Oct 1927 as a reported "total washout."

Yes, it must be since he was built and crashed before the Flying Dutchman was built. But I have no info at all about it.

Here is my 80 in version drawn by Philip Kent. I highly recommend this airplane. I might be building another one since I have most of the materials here already.
What a beauty!

Allow me to share here some documents on the "Flying Dutchman" I collected over the years.
I'm also adding the Niles Monoplane, also known as the "Gold Tip", since it was the prototype for the series.

Also, Szekely aircraft production was as follows (some c/ns are missing):
  • c/n 1 Niles Monoplane -> Szekely Flying Dutchman [4448]
  • c/n 4 unknown type or version [10027]
  • c/n 5 Flying Dutchman [120E]
  • c/n 7 Flying Dutchman [3088]
  • c/n 10 Flying Dutchman [9355]
  • c/n 11 Flying Dutchman [9356]
  • c/n 12 Flying Dutchman [9450] — rebuilt as c/n 12B
  • c/n 13 Flying Dutchman [9451]
  • c/n 14 Flying Dutchman [9452]
  • c/n 15 Flying Dutchman [9453]
  • c/n 16 Flying Dutchman [9454]
  • c/n 17 Flying Dutchman [9455]
  • c/n 18 Flying Dutchman [9456]
  • c/n 19 Flying Dutchman [8089]
  • c/n 20 Flying Dutchman [8090]
  • c/n 21 Flying Dutchman [8091]
  • c/n 26 unknown type or version [10028]

Wow what great documentation, as I have already started Construction on the one painted with the checkerboard. Do you think that would have been a black and white aircraft? Looks like it falls into the racing category as well.

SInce it carries the number "11" on its side, I think it's a safe assumption, yes!
