Getting back to humour and away from politics:

You seem to be implying there's a difference. I defy you to tell me there's a politician operational today who is not a clown to greater or lesser degree.
Just left humour and now firmly into cynicism. Happy landings!

... This being a small startup, my "office" was a corner of the main meeting room: a table in the corner with a computer and standard cathode ray tube monitor, with the back of my chair almost touching the meeting table...

I notice both my boss *and* Buzz Aldrin slowly beginning to look in the direction of my monitor, so I turn around as fast as I can, see what's being displayed on screen, and do the only rational thing: reach out, grab the monitor and rip it about 180 degrees around so nobody can see it.

Any collateral damage?! How people managed with those monsters on their desks I'll never figure out - I was so glad they were pretty much gone by the time I hit university, let alone got an office job.

While we're on the subject of office stories, I have this theory that there are two kinds of people, regarding their impulse when presented with a yes/no pop-up prompt. Those who reflexively click "Yes", and those who equally unthinkingly go for "No". One day IT remotely installed some kind of update on a colleague's machine, and when "Your machine needs to reboot. Restart now? Yes/No" popped up, he immediately clicked "Yes [Whatever...]" and then watched aghast as all his software closed and the computer rebooted.

I made fun of him for that, but the truth is that being in the "No [Get lost!!!]" camp (which I firmly am!) is only marginally better. One day I had a problem and called IT and after discussing things for a bit the support guy said he wanted remote desktop access. He had not even got the first word out about the request "Allow remote desktop access? Yes/No" that was going to pop up before I had already hit "No". Playing Badminton for a long time does that to your reaction time.

In fairness, there might actually be a third faction of people who do read (and process) the prompt, but I have a sneaking suspicion its members may be female exclusively.

Are you suggesting that cynicism and humor are mutually exclusive concepts?
No. The two are non-obligate companions.
Indeed. those who indulge in cynicism *without* humor are DOING IT WRONG.

The universe is cold, dark and antithetical to human life, never mind human happiness. If we are supremely lucky, death is followed by empty oblivion. One can look at this and all the horrors that result - war, crime, famine, natural disasters, extinction, gamma ray bursts, Star Trek Discovery - and be driven to despair and/or madness. but by far a better approach is to look into the void and laugh at it.

So laughing at the cheap charlatans who strive to become political "leaders," the deluded saps who enable them, and the intellectually and ethically vacant policies that they claim to support is not only comparatively easy, it's the *sane* thing to do.

Nope. I'm in the "read at rhe alerts" camp. I also write a plan before I do any work, and document what I did as I go.

However there are plenty of (male) IT Engineers who just randomly press buttons and hit things with hammers until they kind of work (ish), take a screenshot and then walk away.

Obviously Jedi @sferrin, where Titanium alloy can't deal with the stress, still the force is with you

When my mother was widowed, and she wanted to change their joint VODAFONE account to her name only, VODAFONE sent a special request for the VODAFONE bureaucracy to process to confirm her husband's death. This VODAFONE form to be processed by VODAFONE to change the VODAFONE account name required his signature to confirm his own death before VODAFONE would act to change the name of their VODAFONE account.

Had similar problem as my father died in 2004
That Hospital were he was enter by ambulance (sadly he was already dead),
Their management demanded to speak personal to my father, why he not pay his bill.
I explain several times that he was dead and send 3 copy of the declaration of death.
As answer they send a bailiff to our home to collect the money
I went with bailiff to cemetery and show fresh grave, he apologize to me deeply.
Only to get a call from Hospital demanding to speak my father...

Since he died on way home from Work, the employer assurance payed the bill.
But Hospital called and send letters demanding that my father should finally payed this bill
What was already payed by assurance, confirmed by the Employer.
In the end it became a loop between that Hospital, the assurance company and his employer.
i was out of the case, that took more over year under the Three now.
Until the Hospital Top Management got fired for mismanagement and manslaughter by neglect and other offence !
and suddenly their demands stops...

Coinbase... "coin" is french for "quack", as "the sound made by a duck.

By this metric, coin base would be that superhero secret operation room...

super-duck--1-cvr-a-jampole.jpg

and then the entire thing comes full circle:

Coin - quack - quackery
