I am working on a science fiction story and need some help with designing and drawing

As far as transport and helicopters, Embraer manufactures a good lineup of cargo aircraft, so that's covered as long as they can find alternate sources for any foreign-sourced components like engines. Helicopters are solely foreign-sourced; with NATO attacking them that leaves the Russians.

About the Russians...What else are the Japanese and Russians good at producing when talking about planes ? Besides jet engines?

Russia can build the whole spectrum of military aircraft from small drones to strategic bombers. They're somewhat behind the state of the art compared to the United States, but still generally competitive.

Japan's aviation industry is currently closer to Brazil's in terms of products offered - transports, trainers, MPAs, trainers, some helicopters. However, by 2040 I'd expect them to be closer to being able to produce the whole spectrum of military aircraft - they have a stealth fighter under development, after all.

Anyone wriing about dystopian future conflicts should immerse themselves in the vast amounts of paper and online material produced as background for these role playing games since the 1980s.

Took me a while to find the 2.2 version of the first.

The material covers geography, technology, politics and much more
This much more doable.

Thanks for the further suggestions!

Do you have anyone on attack and/or transport helicopters ?

Magnesium is now being leeched from mine tailings near the towns of Asbestos and Thetford Mines, Quebec.

A bit off the topic, but why rare earth elements have become so important lately (ex : China vs Japan)?

Well feck me life.

I take that the PRC has tons of them?

Let me guess. It's because of the previous US administration?
nope
Rare Earth Element are like name say, extrem rare resource on Earth
China stop the export, reserve it for own industry needs.

I don't follow the last phrase. How was it possible ?

The Moon surface dark spots are covert in Stuff called KREEP
A Melange out Potassium, Rare Earth Element and Phosphor
The highest concentration of KREEP is the Oceanus Procellarum and the Mare Imbrium.
AKA landing site of Apollo 12 and 15
A future sites for mining Rare Earth Element in case the Earth deposit are exhausted !

@ADVANCEDBOY

So a bit of a recap :

As suggested by @CV12Hornet
  1. Gripen with
  2. Israeli Avionics
  3. Russian Jet engine or
  4. Japanese Jet engine as suggested by @overscan (PaulMM)
I like the sound of it !

On the off topic : first you guys talk about pollution, then China, then what's the best English ;)

On the last one I can comment as an Humanities student and civilian :
  1. Barbados
  2. Nigerian
  3. Texan
  4. Jamaican
  5. Israeli-accent English
May I suggest that - by 2040 - a stealthy version of Grippen will equip the Brazilian Air Force?
Perhaps Brazil develops a special stealthy paint based upon an exotic plant that only grows in an obscure corner of the Amazon jungle.
Perhaps they discover a stealthy meteorite in the Amazon jungle?
Use your imagination ??????????

honor - US English (variant)
honour - Actual English
It's no good, the colonials just don't get it's from French.

About resources...
https://www.newscientist.com/articl...smartphones-can-be-extracted-from-coal-waste/

Recycling rare earth elements from the ash left over from coal burning is cheaper, easier and more environmentally friendly than digging them out of mines

Hello guys.

Sorry I didn't reply to my own thread in a while.

I was on a vacation on Portugal initially and broke my phone there.

And unfortunatly I got hit with bad news today ; my mom has discovered from her doctors that she has 2 cancers. They found it early. Both them and my mother are optimistic about it. Unlike my sister and me.

Sorry I don't have the strenght to reply, tag everyone or write much else.

I wish the thread to continue if possible.

Though if I don't reply much you guys will understand why.

See you

Trust me!
We Canadians are all intimately aware of all the French spellings imposed on Anglo-phone Canadians in an effort to produce a "simplified" common Canadian vocabulary.
Most of us would prefer the simplified USA vocabulary proposed since the the 1970s (e.g. lite versus light, thru versus through, etc.).

Year zero-ism and a separation from the past origins and parallels of other Germanic languages.
The heart of the problem with English spelling is the wholesale borrowing of words and their spelling in foreign systems.

The difference between modern German and modern English is that modern Germans pronounce every letter they write, ergo written and spoken modern Germany are the same.
OTOH modern English has too many silent letters and overly-complex spellings.

German is difficult. I know 5 languages (as a native speaker Brazilian Portuguese, Italian ; as non-native Spanish,English and French) and German is a pain in the ass for me yet.

It's OT but English Spelling preserves the sounds of when it was allowed to be used formally again.having been excluded from Court for hundreds of years.

This being before certain shifts in the language, and in certain dialects and in Scots. Older forms of pronunciation continued......though it's rather more complicated than that.

The irony is Old English Spelling added less. Making determining certain sounds a matter of analysis and comparison.
This "riht" in Old English is "right" in modern English.

German is difficult.
yes, but German is a precise Language, ideal for scientific use, poetry and Singing (also Comedy)

Rammstein is best example of clever usage of German Language, to make innocently songs, who becoming scandals...

Or Goethe FAUST a komplex literature work, the can compete with that Shakespeare from England
Or His beautiful "Der Götz von Berlichingen" a High point of German literature with sentence like:
My Lord with all my respect, he can lick my A..

Zweideutigkeit at it best !

A Spanish joke about the pronunciation of the German language:

-How do you say the word bus in German?

-Subanempujenestrujenbajen!

(Go up, push, squeeze, go down)

Actually, in the German original it is literally "lick me in the ass", which would seem to indicate an even cozier relationship between the licker and the lickee than merely kissing, but Goethe is indeed generally the one that in popular culture that particular quote is originally attributed to, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Götz_von_Berlichingen_(Goethe). A very minor part of my Gymnasium (German equivalent of high school) education was a field trip by bus to an open air summer theater venue to watch a production of that play that included an at the time nationally known actor. The main attraction for me and most of my teenage peers however was waiting for and hearing that line. Fun bonus trivia fact: Nine years after Goethe's play, Mozart composed a canon with the very same theme, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leck_mich_im_Arsch. And on a completely unrelated note, I think I'm starting to understand why Teutonic people seem to have somewhat of an international reputation for being blunt...

Just dipping a toe in here.

My advice is to get copies of the roleplaying game Twilight 2000, and its supplement Merc 2000.

It shows how to make a believable setting where the Cold War went hot (or in the case of Merc 2000 - warm) in the near future. For the games it was near future, as it was published in the mid-80s, and extrapolated credible events in the 90s leading to nuclear war.

You might be able to get the setting info just off the web - but if not digital versions are available for good prices.
If you seeing TVTropes.org as an instruction guide for book writing, you are using it incorrectly. My opinion, but I do have a 1st class Honours degree in English.

An update :

I kinda mentally recovered from the news of my mother's cancer, she did her first session of chemo the 11th, the doctors are optimist and she was more worried/nervous/angry about her legal procedure with my father, who had claimed through his lawyer that she had lied in the past ( first time he actually made that affirmation ), that she had rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis BEFORE last year and she was making up her cancer.

The judge herself told him to shut the fuck up (in a legalese and formal way of speaking).

The good thing is it no longer like a year or two ago and she was a lucky one and they found it early and started chemo immediatly.

Returning to this thread main them :

  1. I apologize to anyone if I was arrogant or behaved like I spoiled brat , or anything remotely negative
  2. I did look into Jane's library and they do look much more legit than initially thought
  3. With that, I have seen their prices and it's out of my league
  4. Found some (apparently legit) books on the subjects of tanks and airplanes :
https://www.amazon.it/Modern-Tanks-...&refinements=p_27:Russell+Hart&s=books&sr=1-2

https://www.amazon.com/Modern-Military-Aircraft-Technical-Guides/dp/1838861114

https://www.amazon.it/Czolgi-wozy-o...&refinements=p_27:Russell+Hart&s=books&sr=1-3

Ironically I think this book is "banned" in its English version because it looked like it disappeared as soon as the war started...it was available in English and now... well...ironically it's available in Polish. But maybe it's just my wild imagination.

What's your guys opinion on these products ?

I had a difficult time finding recent (2010-2021/2022) professional illustrated guides/manuals and more on Amazon and similars.

I am looking also for an illustrator.

Not for now because my priorities shifted heavily but maybe in the future.

This guy seems to fit the bill but I can't tell if he knows what he is doing :

Jetfreak has drawn some beautiful airplanes. A few are accurate portrayals of current-service jets, but most are fictional.
