Future soldier technology (modified thread)

Legitimate use of land mines... no, disagree. It is an entirely different question.

The question you posed to KM was not the question you claim he did not answer. This is about the way you are conducting yourself in this discussion.

Here is my conduct in this discussion:

Everything that goes bang is dangerous and can be used against you. Ammunition stockpiles transferred to a corrupt government will likely wind up in an IED. But again this is arguing over the existence of the thing and not its use.

KM
What I am suggesting is that this use is pointless......

Must be that Anglophone thing again.

There is no discussion if all you ever say is that mines should be banned. Every post will be just a variation of "stop". As your compatriot suggested, you can open a thread in The Bar on the topic of banning mines (in the West because no country outside the West cares).

Compatriot? He is in the Netherlands, I am in Australia. We are literally a world apart. As for banning the use of mines, most societies care. However, some militaries don't. America is one example of a military that doesn't care. Mines have caused untold casualties where ever they have been used. You should care but hey, Americans don't believe in gaining the hearts and minds of a local population, they just prefer to kill them...

And thus remove all doubt as to whether you see any use for mines in any context. Which again reduces any post to some extended version of "stop!". So you are free to indulge The Bar and I will leave you in peace (although I would prefer to just kill you being American and all).

I have provided my reasons why mines whether "dumb" or "smart" are a bad idea. You may disagree with them. However I suspect that you are young and foolish and over enamoured of technology. Perhaps we should leave the discussion here? It would save a lot of electrons.

Stealth fighter vs conventional.

Smart bomb vs dumb.

GPS vs compass and map.

I'm old enough to distinguish realistic from enamoured. Yes let this be a defining point of division.

According to the designer of the SVLK-14C Sumrak rifle, Vladislav Lobaev, such a cartridge will allow not only accurately hit targets at a distance of more than 6 kilometers, but also penetrate armored vehicles of the "enemy" even from great distances.

Only the Army could be allowed to carry a facial recognition system linked to a database to prevent the forgetting of birthdays. Such the is privileges of hard power. /s

Perhaps there is more potential in IVAS in COIN than kinetic infantry ops. Imagine Manna (marshall brain), but for nation building. "Social" applications is just poorly understood, including potential.

Yuma test activities. First 2 minutes show test failures including what must have been a pants wetting moment for some C-130 pilots. Last 4 minutes are various systems in test. Not sure if this has been posted before. I can't find it doing a search so I assume no.

Northrop begins deliveries of 30mm airburst ammo to Army. The Navy really needs to buy some for those 30mm guns they've installed on their ships.

Northrop Grumman will also begin deliveries this year of the first airburst type cartridge to support the U.S. Army’s Germany-based, 2nd Cavalry Regiment’s Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) fleet that were recently ‘up-gunned’ with the company’s 30mm Bushmaster® Chain Gun®.

The Navy and Marines actually funded development of 30mm ABM back around 2003-4, specifically for the Mk44 and the Mk46 turret. Not sure why it wasn't fielded.

Yes, now that you mention it, I remember hearing about that.

Federal Ammunition is proud to announce a contract award to supply high-performance 7.62x51mm NATO and other novel ammunition for the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Carbine Technologies (NGCT) program. This suite of ammunition utilizes a specialized alloy cartridge case allowing for elevated chamber pressures and a reduction in ammunition weight as compared to legacy brass-cased ammunition.
