Hi,

the Aerfer was an Italian manufacturing company created in 1955 by the merger of IMAM
and Officine Ferroviarie Meridionali,he name is a contraction of Costruzioni Aeronautiche e Ferroviarie.

XS.1 was a single seat ZEL interceptor Project of 1959,maybe called AE.170 ?
Sagittario II was a well known lighweight single seat jet fighter
Sagittario II/Attack it was the same Sagittario II,but powered by one Rolls-Royce Derwent
Mk.8 engine and attack armaments.
Sagittario II/T was a two- seat jet trainer Project
Sagittario II/trolley was the same aircraft,fitted with trolley to can takeoff from grassy slopes,

Sagittario II/Int was the same aircraft as interceptor,with increased wing span,Project
Sagittario III was a development of Sagittario II
Leone was a single seat supersonic interceptor Project,based on Sagittario
Ariete was a development of Sagittario II,AE.180 ?

the Aeritalia was an aerospace engineering corporation based in Italy,formed by the merger of Fiat Aviazione and Aerfer in 1969,and its aircraft list is;

Thanks hesham. There were two phases to Aerfer ... but the corporate genealogy gets a little convoluted. As you say, Aerfer sprang from the interconnected IMAM and Officine Ferroviarie Meridionali (OFM) of Pomigliano d'Arco near Naples.

As a locomotive and rolling stock-maker, Officine Ferroviarie Meridionali (Southern Railway Workshops) had been formed in Naples in 1904. In 1918, Nicola Romeo (of Alfa Romeo fame) became Presidente of OFM. After WWI, OFM was combined with a number of other rolling stock-makers and came under the control of the newly-named Società anonima Ing. Nicola Romeo e Co. This new firm started producing airplanes and aircraft parts in 1923. In 1925, ing. Romeo negotiated a license with Fokker to produce the C.V-E under license as the Romeo Ro.1.

In 1926, an aircraft factory was founded at Pomigliano d'Arco ('Alfasud di Pomigliano'). A year later, aircraft began to be produced under the Industrie Meccaniche Aeronautiche Meridionali (Southern Aeronautical Mechanical Industries) name. Although Nicola Romeo was forced out of the company in 1928, for years the name 'Romeo' was associated with IMAM. Later on, 'IMAM (Meridionali)' became the common reference although 'Ro' designations were still used.

In 1936, IMAM was acquired by the Società Italiana Ernesto Breda of Sesto San Giovanni (near Milan). However, the Pomigliano plant was heavily bombed on 30 May 1943. Production ended and, with over 70% of the structure demolished, the Pomigliano site stood vacant. With both Sesto San Giovanni and Pomigliano facilities idle in the immediate postwar period, Breda was forced to sell the heavily damaged Pomigliano site to Finmeccanica in 1950.The Società Finanziaria Meccanica – Finmeccanica SpA had been formed in 1948 to provide financial support for the Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale (IRI or Institute for Industrial Reconstruction).

In 1952, Finmeccanica formed the Officine di Costruzioni Aeronautiche e Ferroviarie Aerfer as a component of IMAM in part of the ruined Pomigliano facility. As you noted, on 26 July 1955, Finmeccanica united those two components as Aerfer - in the sense relevant to aircaft designations - the Industrie Meccaniche Meridionali Aeronautiche e Ferrotranviarie SpA (or Southern Mechanical Industries Aeronautics and Rolling-Stock Ltd.).
