I almost didn't even think it had any yaw authority either until I noticed that the rear end of the fuselage appears to have the ability to pivot like a rudder. How strange.

Well it has a long enough lever arm... the big issue is probably the movement of the centre of drag forward... it might be more stable flying backward??

Reminds me of the Flying Flea which caused quite a craze - and looks every bit as lethal.

The yellow one is also reminiscent of the first British-built aeroplane to fly, S.F. Cody's British Army Aeroplane No.1, which featured a similar forward-mounted upper rudder that Cody called a "head rudder." He actually used it as a supplementary aileron to increase roll control authority. One trusts that de Rouge was similarly clued-up as to its action.
