Hi folks,
Never having tried posting images to this splendid forum before, I apologise if I make a mess of this, but here goes:
Found a reference to a patent for an allegedly VTOL (and seemingly asymmetrical) transatmospheric vehicle.
Text and image below come from a BBC news-site about patents from the European Patent Office newly made public in 2006. (Can’t find the original patent yet though.)
“Designed by Frank G Young of New York, in 1972, the engine (5) of this vertical take-off "air and space craft" folded down, enabling ascent or descent "similar to... a falling maple seed".”
See http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/4805420.stm

Cheers,
‘Wingknut’.

Aerospace vehicle having multiple propulsion systems on a relatively rotatable flying wing

Many thanks for the patent link - really helpful. I'm delighted to hear that the Young 1972 'Maple Seed' really was meant to be an asymmetrical VTOL aerospace plane. (Can't think of another one ...)
All best,

The description is frightening: spinning flight with tries to prevent pilot's dizziness and provide not rotating view around... :-\
Thanks anyway for having found this pearl, missing in my collection of asymmetric planes ;D
