Hi all,
I was recently thinking about films that focus on First World War aviation and early air combat. It’s a niche topic, and while historical accuracy often takes a back seat, these films can still be entertaining or visually interesting — especially given how fragile and experimental aircraft were at the time.
I don’t expect cinema to be a documentary, but I do enjoy films that at least try to capture the atmosphere of early military aviation: open cockpits, limited tactics, and the sense that everything was being invented on the fly.
Here are a few WWI aviation films I’ve seen:
The Blue Max
Aces High
Flyboys
Hell’s Angels
The Dawn Patrol
Some of these are very much products of their era, others are more modern and polished, but all of them shaped popular perceptions of WWI air combat in one way or another.
I also came across a couple of lists while looking around:

It’s hard to tell from lists alone which films are worth watching for interest value, even if the technical details aren’t always spot on.
I’m curious what people here think.
Are there any WWI aviation films you enjoy despite their flaws, or perhaps avoid entirely? Obscure titles and guilty pleasures both welcome.
