Airbus has begun fabricating several 4-5m wing extensions of various shapes which will be flight tested on an A321 in the second half of next year to see how they perform in real life, the work is to simulate folding wing extensions which might be used on their next narrow body aircraft. The initial wing extensions will be fixed not hinged but hinges would be developed later if testing proves successful.
