USN Carrier Deployments

What about painting the interior of an SSN or SSBN, Scott? I remember watching on TV in the early 90s an 80s film where an SSBN is repainted inside shortly before going on patrol and the whole crew ends up going crazy because of an additive in the paint (It tended to make one a bit psycho after inhaling the fumes).
You're not supposed to paint while underway. At all.

Doesn't stop people from doing it, but the Central Atmosphere Monitoring System tells on them.

I was in back in the days of polished shoes and boots, and even the number of cans of polish and edge dressing were limited. Not supposed to have bleach onboard, either.

Iodine tended to be the order of the day back in the late 80's to 90's here, less common now even in hospitals.

Mind you, a LOT of the stuff we used then is now banned as carcinogenic.

Just checked with a pals who state they never completely stopped using iodine after I ceased operations, they just reduced it and are now ramping use up again. They will be going back to thiopentone and Halothane at this rate.

NB, Halothane:- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK548151/

The new environmentally-friendly paint doesn't stick as well as the old stuff. Nor does it prevent rust as well.
So, most of the crud near the waterline turns out to be algae and such, not rust. They had contractors come in and power wash the hull during the shore leave and she looks much better now. The paint on the hull actually seems to have held up. There's still some superficial running rust higher up, but that's typical.
