US Air Force Space Assets

Why does this thread exist? Space Force is part of the Dept of the Air Force, therefore Space Force assets are "US Air Force space assets. There aren't separate non Space Force space assets in the Dept of the Air Force. AFRL is in the Dept of the Air Force and supports Space and Air Force missions. Any space related work by AFRL is for the Space Force. AFWERX is part of the AFRL. And again, space related work by AFWERX is for the Space Force.

Quite possibly a fair point. I wasn't fully aware of force structure, I always thought USSF and USAF were separate. Thread merge? @Jemiba

Space Force and Air Force are distinct services, in exactly the same way that the Navy and Marine Corps are distinct services within a single department. In terms of operational chain of command, they are separate, all the way up to both having seats in the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They share a top-level administrative control, with both reporting to the Secretary of the Air Force.
 
So does the USAF have their own space assets separate to the USSF or are they all USSF?

But the Space Force uses Air Force personnel and organizations in non operational positions. Medical, Civil Engineering, Finance, Personnel, Security, Logistics, etc are all Air Force personnel at Space Force bases. The Air Force Research Labs support Air Force and Space Force missions.
 
There are two ways the USAF can look at Space Force:

A.) Angry that space advocates are no longer under their thumbs.

B.)Pleased to be rid of space advocates who might threaten budget allocations from within rather than without.

Well--there could be C. (no real change).

Honest question - would that be comparable to the relationship of USMC vs. USN as the host organization?

Very much like the USBN/USMC relationship. Navy corpsmen and hospitals, a fair bit of Navy admin support to Marine procurement, etc.

D. A separate medium where warfare is unlike the others, which required different strategies and tactics, hence the need for a dedicated service with a separate budget.

again, the world is not how you perceive it.

Space Force (and in the past, USAF space) has had its own dedicated procurement organization since 1961. But the Space Force relies on the Air Force more. At Patrick Space Force Base, home of the 45th Space Launch Delta, there are two deputy commanders under the Delta commander. One for operations, who is Space Force and the other for support, who is Air Force. Under operations (Space Force) is the 1st Range Operations Squadron, 45th Weather Squadron and the 5th Space Launch Squadron. Under support (Space Force), there is the 45th Contracting Squadron, 45th Civil Engineer Squadron, 45th Force Support Squadron, 45th Logistics Readiness Squadron, and 45th Security Forces Squadron. There is also the 45th Medical Group.

All right--then why did it take so long to have USSF---did it have to take a Trump?

The military couldn't do it on their own. It required a law change.
And with that law change, the Space Force also took over Army (DSCS) and Navy (MUOS, UFO, FLTSATCOM) space assets.
