In a written reply to Parliament on 17 June 1963 the following project cancellation costs were listed. Reproduced in Flight, 27 June 1963. The totals appear to be in their contemporaneous values, rather than being adjusted to a baseline year's Pound.

Derek Wood put most of this in Project Cancelled. They are indeed then-years' money. Before using any of them to support an argument, be aware of inconsistencies of scope. Example: bits of kit (inc engines) might be in these numbers...or not, if they found other applications.

Oh Lord, the Swift. What a s**tshow. "Hey, we have a reputation for making arguably the most legendary fighter in history! Let's trash it completely with this abomination!"

The thing you can't quantify is lessons learned in development and applied to future projects, irrespective of whether a particular piece of hardware had an ongoing existence.

The Mystère II was barely better than the Swift. An unstable and underpowered bastard that killed way too much pilots.
