Su-57 Felon Book

Modern Military Aircraft Series: Volume 2

In December 2020, the first Sukhoi Su-57, codenamed Felon by NATO, entered service with the Aerospace Forces, making it Russia’s most recent combat aircraft. It is a multirole aircraft combining the functions of both a fighter and strike aircraft, with design features that include stealth, supersonic cruising speed and manoeuvrability, the latest sensors and weaponry, and network-centric warfare capability. Fully illustrated with over 170 full-colour photographs, this book describes the trials of the T-50 prototypes and the implementation of the Su-57 into series production, as well as looking at the design, characteristics and combat capabilities of this fifth-generation fighter.

Is this going to be a book or those glossy 100 page special edition magazines that I often see in the aviation section at my local bookstore ?

[Yefim Gordon's Su-57 book] is worth it I'd say. For one, being an FRA series book, it's absurdly well illustrated. As far as I could tell after a quick glance it was pretty comprehensive up to that point, including a few pages of Checkmate coverage. I haven't checked it for "accuracy" yet, i.e. compared it to Butowski's book to see who's got conflicting information if any.
Plus, you get the hilarious Gordon-isms, like suggesting FELON was chosen as an insult, or that people say the weirdo engine noise it's made at some points was "howling" because a "howler" is another Western term for a huge joke and they obviously want to do nothing but insult Russia with every breath.

I did notice the competing book on the Sukhoi Su-57 fighter by Yefim Gordon (Crecy Publishing) from around that same time; see thread https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/famous-russian-aircraft-sukhoi-su-57.36489/. Although I have many (most?) of his earlier books and am not so anti-Yefim as several others here are, I decided to purchase the shorter Su-57 book by Polish aviation journalist Piotr Butowski (Key Publishing) instead. I have been a fan of Mr Butowski since I bought a copy of his and Jay Miller's detailed reference OKB MiG thirty-five years ago. Mr Butowski is unusually informed on Soviet/Russian aviation subjects, and he writes in English clearly and engagingly. (If I'm understanding correctly, Yefim Gordon doesn't speak English and has his works translated by collaborator Dmitriy Komissarov.)

Butowski's book Su-57 Felon, which is in color, gets a thumbs-up. His and Yefim Gordon's 2021/22 titles necessarily don't cover usage of the Su-57 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Feb 2022-present). I've heard thirdhand that the combat experience of Su-57s, which remain in short supply, has been within Russian airspace, to occasionally launch long-range ordnance against Ukraine from well behind the border.

He can speak English to some degree. He was at Telford IPMS Model show one year I attended, talking to Tony Buttler.

I stand corrected. I do own a copy of many of Yefim Gordon's books, especially his earlier Aerofax and Red Star volumes, even though I found the English to be stilted at times.
