Styrene

:D Oddly enough, some styrene for scratchbuilding and kitbashing was delivered today.
Also included in the order were 2 of Metal Earth's Voyager space probe kits bought for use as kitbash fodder.

During my time as a scratch modeler, I used all kinds of materials: plywood, wood pulp, aluminum, balsa wood, mahogany, methacrylate... But Styrene had something special about it that only modelers of my generation can appreciate. Maybe the girl was a little old-fashioned, but she was perfectly suited to any need.:D
 
I've not used wood pulp but have used the others named. Various papers and foils also get used.
As some health problems have developed over the past couple decades I now do more kitbashing than scratchbuilding.
And have also become very sloooooooooooooooooooooow at it.
But, hey, that I am still able to build models at all with this health mess definitely counts as a blessing.

Just Thursday I'd taken a sketchbook with me to laundromat to make notes for a spaceship to be kitbashed from Revell's 1/32 Bell X-1, but turned in to a 1/72 or 1/144 spaceship, which had been purchased almost a decade ago as kitbash fodder.

Well ... while looking things over as the laundry dried ...

I liked the kit's pilot figure so much the kitbash got cancelled! :oops:

After getting laundry home and resting for a bit I started building the kit.
It will almost but not quite be box stock.

However ... it is currently somewhere between likely and certain to get a fictional paint job;
I thing it would look quite nice in the 1920s, 1930s, US Army Air Corps blue fuselage with yellow wings and tail.

Hmm ... wonder what styrene figure kit might be kitbashed in to a representation of that muse ... ?
Ya know, Preiser model railway figures have some plain unadorned people kits in one of the several G scale/gauge scales ...
