The cheering when Huot announced that Starship was go for orbit was great. No one should doubt Starship can reach orbit with a real payload now, and SpaceX is set up for increasing performance and improving margins with future flights.

The engines out weren’t great, but they also aren’t a showstopper, Starship has demonstrated how engine-out capability (even with a conservative flight) benefits mission success.

This is also good news for the Starlink constellation, because even with this limited payload, SpaceX launched far more bandwidth with just one Starship flight than they could launch with nearly a dozen Falcon 9s.

I've got to run down there to watch at least one of these launches.
Interestingly, exactly NONE of my friends or family know or care anything about this program and yet these launches are making history. They are probably more important on a historical scale than the Saturn V launches and the Apollo program. Apollo was a magnificent, exciting, glorious dead-end that ended up going nowhere.
This time, we are moving on to space. And Starship is leading the way.

Not necessarily a long time. If they flew a dozen flights with no engines out that would probably be enough. Hell, one of the Saturn Vs lost an engine and they didn't derate it for manned flight.
 
How come flight 14 was deorbited after three hours instead of the planned 10 hours?

Ship 41 lost an engine. Out of caution and with Hawaii as a designated backup landing location they decided to deorbit early. It had by that time accomplished the goals assigned to it of reaching orbit and deploying V3 satellites. Both booster and ship lost engines so there is still some work to do with the Raptor.

I expect they will go for a booster catch nest flight and if no engines are out on the ship will attempt a ship catch as well. Also helps that the Cape pad is basically ready for flight so if something happened at Boca Chica they have an alternative to continue operation from.
