Son of an Hurel-Dubois and a C-5 Galaxy

Such a design was proposed by Boeing (although quite clearly utilising the
Galaxy fuselage):

This concept is also seen on page 249 of Bill Gunston's book Giants of the Sky and this concept was dubbed "Long-term Technology Transport, Long Range". The book also identifies this concept as a Lockheed study. Wonder if Aviation Week misidentified the company behind the design. The floating wingtips of the design remind me of those of early designs for the WS-110 competition.
