British car maker Jaguar Land Rover has paid homage to British wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill with a 'new' limited edition model with a massive asking price.

The Land Rover Defender V8 Churchill Edition has been unveiled on Tuesday and is limited to a run of just 10 cars inspired by the British statesman, military officer and two-time PM's own vehicle.


Rather than being based on the latest modern Defender, JLR's classic department has sourced ten examples of the previous generation 4X4, which has roots dating back to the motor owned by Churchill following World War II.

The exclusive cars replicate the Land Rover Series I, which was gifted to the PM in 1954.

The situation described in the article linked reminds me of a plane crash shortly after ground proximity warning sensors were fitted to passenger aircraft.

Note that what follows is not an exact transcript, but what I remember from the account in question:

Anyway on to the story...

Drivers have been warned latest models in showrooms feature new - EU mandated - safety technology that can be distracting and even dangerous.

What Car? has carried out tests of the system installed in six brand new motors and came to the conclusion they can be 'irrational and erratic' and 'put lives at risk'.

This is because important safety systems frequently raise false alarms and can increase the risk of the accidents they're supposed to prevent.

Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning (DDAW) systems - fitted to all new models under EU rules introduced last summer - use in-car cameras that monitor the driver to detect if they're falling asleep or distracted at the wheel.

While not a legal requirement for models sold in the UK, car makers are equipping Britain-bound vehicles with the feature anyway to reduce manufacturing costs.

And just last week, Labour hinted it would likely adopt the same EU rules that require all new cars to have DDAW systems as well as 18 other safety features, including black box recorders and automatic speed limiters.

Czech police have arrested a man who has been driving a red Formula 1-type racing car on public roads since 2019.

The driver, a 51-year-old man, had been spotted on the highways near the capital, Prague, numerous times over the past six years.

On Sunday morning, local time, footage was posted online and shared with police of the vehicle being driven along the D4 motorway and stopping for petrol. Witnesses told police he was speeding.

His red racing car, decked out in full Ferrari livery, was followed to a property in the village of Buk, where police arrested him.
