That very attractive 1979 AMC Spirt “AMX” is essentially a cleverly rebodied 1970 AMC Gremlin and as such it was one of the worst handling and most nose heavy cars of the era. The problem is that AMC 304 was very nearly as heavy as the 360, 390 or 401 because every AMC V8 was built on the equivalent of “Big Block” tooling, unlike a comparable “small block” 302 Ford or 350 Chevrolet. Considering that the 304 V8, 4 speed manual and even the driveshaft are missing, this car would require a very substantial investment to make operable. Rebuilding a 304 AMC is probably more expensive than rebuilding a 360 or 390, but there again, adding more power isn’t desirable with this nose heavy configuration. Dick Teague produced a number of attractive designs in this era, but it’s worth remembering that AMC was a shoestring operation that made was forced to make horrible fundamental design compromises. This project car is best left to an AMC specialist collector. But it sure looks attractive.

I’d argue that YouTube and TikTok videos of American police using the pit maneuver might be a more likely source of inspiration than any “PlayStation game.”

Kids will be kids. Truth be known, the pit maneuver probably should be banned as a practice as it ends badly for the police in much the same way as it did for these wayward children. https://www.police1.com/vehicle-inc...-pit-maneuver-on-wrong-vehicle-during-pursuit

A nine-year-old boy has allegedly been caught steering a car after 1am on a major highway in New South Wales.

NSW police alleged that a 45-year-old driver was experiencing “significant fatigue” and “operating the pedals” while the boy steered on his lap.

A seatbelt detection camera captured the car travelling on the Great Western Highway at Mount Lambie, about 120km west of Sydney, at 1.35am on Saturday 7 March with the “unrestrained child” sitting on the man’s lap, police alleged in a statement on Monday.

BMW brags about using recycled seat fabrics that would look cheap in a Dacia Sandero. https://www.bmwgroup.com/en/news/general/2026/sustainability-approach-bmw-i3.html

The irony here is that PET based fabrics will break down in UV light, which is a problem for seating fabrics in a car. This particular fabric looks loosely woven and abrasive, possibly a low point in quality. It amazes me how Dacia can get something like seating fabric right on the cheapest car in Europe and BMW puts something like this out. Looking back to the worst cars in history, GM’s late 70s and early 80s malaise era sedans had unspeakable engines, like the Olds Diesel and Caddy 4100 and V8-6-4, but the synthetic velour fabric seats shrugged off decades of fading and still looked pristine in junkyards decades later.

The BMW i3 itself looks like something of a styling flop, with the proportions of a transverse engine front drive sedan despite being nothing of the kind. It reminds me too much of the front drive based 2-series “Grand Coupe” which has to be the ugliest and worst selling modern entry level BMW in America, being outsold many times over by the handsome rear drive 2-series coupe

A suspect who had installed a bong into the dashboard of his car was arrested for the 98th time by officers following a high speed chase.

Dashcam footage shared by Thurston County Sherriff Derek Sanders on Monday (23 March) shows officers chasing a vehicle through Down Olympia, Washington after they received reports that a pair of organized retail theft suspects had just fled a store.

After a high speed pursuit, which was then called off by officers due to the reckless driving of the fleeing motorist, officers eventually located the two suspects and their truck.

Inside the truck officers found a “custom bong device built into the dash of the truck so he could comfortably smoke drugs while driving”. Meth, heroin, and fentanyl were also discovered, as well as the stolen items.

Thousands of Australian drivers will be asked to check their electric vehicle batteries as part of a global recall involving more than 100,000 cars.

Hyundai issued a local recall for almost 5000 vehicles on Friday due a fault with its battery management software that could cause a fire while the car is recharging or while it is parked.

The recall involves two Hyundai models: the Kona EV manufactured between 2018 and 2023, and the IONIQ EV made between 2018 and 2022.

The dream of relaxing in the backseat while a computer navigates through heavy traffic is no longer a scene from a science-fiction movie. You can see these sleek, sensor-laden vehicles roaming the streets of major cities right now, promising a future of fewer accidents and more free time. However, as the novelty begins to wear off, many people are starting to realize that putting an algorithm in charge of a two-ton machine is a bit more daunting than first imagined. It is one thing to trust a calculator with your taxes, but it is a whole different story when trusting a motherboard with your life at sixty miles per hour.

Self-driving cars are getting scary

The manager of an alcohol-free bar was found slumped over the wheel of his car after crashing at more than four times the drink-drive limit.

Hayden Geraghty is the boss of Sobr in Aberdeen but got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol with friends after a shift last month.

He crashed the motor and police arrived to find him on the driver’s seat on March 7.

Geraghty was breathalysed and gave a reading of 99 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 22mcg.

The 33-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday and admitted drink driving.
